Startforth Gingerbread Recipe |

butter |

teaspoon mixed spice |
| 2oz
brown sugar |
pinch
of ground ginger |
| 8oz
black treacle |

eggs, beaten |
| 8oz
plain flour |
2fl
oz of sour milk |
| ½
teaspoon bicarbonate of soda |

| Melt
the butter, sugar and treacle gently. Remove from the heat and
stir in the flour sifted with the bicarbonate of soda, spice
and ginger. Add the beaten eggs and sour milk, and mix well.
Pour into a lined and greased 1lb loaf tin and bake at 350ºF
(Mark 4) for 1½
to 2 hours. |
